Lunch in Riga, nice beer
I arrived in Riga a little later than scheduled due to delays from Lithuania.
All I relay wanted was to get onto the next bus to Tallinn. This was not to be though as I was told the next bus was at 6 oclock in the afternoon, I then found a bus at 4 oclock felt little happier then tried to work out what to do for 4 hours.
As I had traveled for nearly 48 hours now without a wash or change of clothes I was feeling pretty rank.
I had to draw some cash from the ATM to use the bathroom. This is always a tricky operation for me. I still had my Złoty from Poland and would preferred to change them but being unable to find a Forex shop I used the ATM. The main thing that worried me about using the ATM, besides the fear of it swallowing my card for ever, is how much money to draw. At this stage I barely knew which country I was in let alone how the currency was doing with regard to the Euro.
I looked around and based my assumption on the cost of a can of coke and drew what I though I would need (my calculations where spot on as I exchanged the last bit on the ferry to Helsinki and bought a beer).
With a pocket full of lats, I hit the bathrooms for a little freshen up.
All the toilets had there seats broken off, I assume this due to the local standing on them as they would there normal toilets. I have heard this is also a problem in the east, its a funny image really. Totally off the topic but random fact I have heard. These old school toilets that require you to squat offer a better bowel alignment which facilitates a better movement. Also it must help people keep flexible and fit.
While I had the time I used the basin and gave myself a little shave around the edges of my beard to take the itchiness around my neck off. Also changed into some shorts and new pair of jocks. During the process I felt like a homeless bum but afterwards felt like a new man.
Riga has an amazing market outside the station packed with fruit (and everything else that is of little interest to a Vegan). So I picked up cherries, grapes and some apples for a few coins so I assume it was really cheap. Did a little more walking around towards the center of town I assume. Then found a little park to eat my lunch and chill. In the Park there was an awesome little bar pumping MTV.
So after lunch I stopped here for a drink and wrote up my journal. Really great beer, I was well impressed.
Time was getting close so I got back to the station and queued for a packed bus. Amazingly I was the only one on the bus with a space next to me. This was also a luxury speed coach so had icy cold aircon and did not stop all the way to Tallinn which was just as well cos I was running very late.
