While ronnie was here on his holiday we went for a little drive late on sunday night to take part in a little street racing in montague gardens. I was just getting the hang off pulling away without wheel spinning too much when the engine starts making a knocking sound. Fearing the worse we tow it home, strip the head off and find I bloddy great bolt from the carb stuck in the cylinder.
I had only just put the head back onto the beta so this all felt very familiar to me.
There are also pictures of the monte fuel sender which packed up. I wasnt able to fix it though so my fuel tank reads full all the time until the warning light comes one. |

Finally got my Lancia Beta running and idling almost like a regular car. I think the last problem was the slightly smaller jets that the car had been fitted with while it lived in jhb. So I managed to track down some of the jets at Windsors in Parow. It seems when I fitted them I didnt tighten the secondary one enough so it rattled lose and got sucked into the engine. Bounced around the cylinder before getting stuck between the piston and the block. You can see the remains of the brass emulsioning tubes, luckily being brass they didnt do any manager damage to the cylinder head or piston. Resisting any temptation to modify the head while I have it in pieces Im hoping just to get a new set of gaskets and put everything back together. |

Its been awhile but my prisma engine and gearbox are now back in the car. Didnt manage to get it running or put the front suspension back on today though. I blame drinking games last night and early morning Aikido with Guy. Productive weekend though. Just hope it all works, all the gears appear to be there which is the most important thing. |

Starting to rebuild, I found the tapered roller bearings on the diff are pitted, maybe the cause of the noise? Anyway I need to get them replaced, well I need to get them off first, our puller wont get under it. So this weeks mission is to get the bearings off and then to get new bearings. Sounds so simple, but wont be. One of the bolts holding the gearbox to the engine was totally missing when I stripped it, after a week long search I gave up bought a dye and made it myself. Which was mildly expensive. |

It came apart alot easier than I thought. Nothing really nasty inside either, Im going shopping tommorow to see how easy its going to be to get some new bearings and seals while its apart.
Hope the welders do a better job on the bellhousing than last time. Taking it to a bigger place this time so they should do a better job. |

As promised before leaving for Europe, I have taken my prisma engine back out. Well it has been two years since the whole engine came out. Probably a year since the last clutch change. Thanks to Ronnie who gave me a hand on Saturday to get the engine out. We are getting pretty good started late and still had time to fit the headlining into his Opel before supper.
Spent today (Sunday) cleaning everything trying to spot the oil leak! This time Im going to do as much as possible. New engine mounts, fix heater, new hoses, new belts, new oil seals. Ow and strip and rebuild the gearbox. Hoping to get it back in next weekend, if Im very lucky and can strip the gearbox, get it welded and put it back together all in 5 days Ill be very impressed. hell if I get it back together again Ill be impressed. |

Thats right Ive managed to break the engine mounting on the gearbox of my lancia prisma again! This time it isnt my fault, the welds were not strong enough and have came away as you can see from the pictures. So when I get back from holiday England/Europe its engine out and strip gearbox again. This time Im going to take it to AllWeld rather than a small time engineering company, hoepfully they will do a better job! Also gives me a chance to fix all the rust and million other problems my prisma has. |
