Marcus Paauwe lived with me in Cork from November 2008 till May 2009 when he suddenly disappeared. Turned out they owed me and many other people money (combined many thousands of euros). As we did more research we found he had been doing this for years all over Europe. My first post describing what we found when he initially left -> http://www.baldy.za.net/node/665
In the last 6 months, I have found out some more information and tracked down Marcus Paauwe to a B&B near the main train station in Frankfurt. Managed to get in contact with him on his new email address beatsteak76@googlemail.com (even asked him out on a date www.neu.de). He was very apologetic via email and of course promised to pay the money he owed me, but did not follow through on his promises. He was working as network admin till two of his previous employers had found out about his past on the internet and asked him to leave. |

Marcus Paauwe and his then girlfriend lived with me in Cork from November 2008 till May 2009 when they suddenly did a runner. We came home to find they had packed everything and left without as much as leaving a note. What a coward, he could have at least written a note saying so long sorry about the money I owe you.
He left owing just over a months rent. I found out I got off pretty luckily, his colleagues at Apple we he worked had made him personal loans which he of course will not be paying back as he has presumably left the country. After he had left I started opening his mail to try and get some idea of where he has gone to. This revealed that he had also taken out a personal loan from a loan company (charging 150% APR). So he is really working it from every angle and will get caught out eventually. I did my bit and called up his bank and the loan company making them aware so they can monitor and hopefully freeze his accounts. |

Tomorrow is Ireland is playing England in the 6 nations. Not that big a deal? Well since coming to Ireland I have got rather fond of going down to the pub and watching the rugby, so I will be looking forward to it.
The match has much more significance than that though. Even more significance than just the fact the Irish are huge rivals of the English and will go nuts if they beat them.
Time for the history lesson, in 1920 during the Irish war of independence the IRA woke up and killed 14 British agents in the morning. This rather pissed off the English who retaliated sending British forces to a stadium called Croke Park in Dublin where the British forces killed 14 civilians including the captain of one of the teams, this day became known as Bloody Sunday. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1920)) This was a major turning point in the war for the IRA and they gained much support after the actions of the British.

Being a vegan has lead me to meet very interesting people and a whole new range of things that can be eaten. For example Durian, which I first heard about from Ha. Ha being quite the character, a raw vegan, hippy, cyclists with his own video blog on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/durianriders).
Now durian is an asian fruit and on its wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian) it has a section called Flavour and odour “... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away." |

Time for a little refactoring (for those into extreme programming) or maybe not. You see this blog entry could go either way. I spent the afternoon read this blog -> http://betedejour.blogspot.com/2008/07/speed-dating-part-i-seduction-lin... its a really good blog, scores points for numerous Game references and I have short listed it to go on my side bar (thats right http://baglett.blogspot.com your days are number, you maybe a Cape Town hottie, but your not as funny). So I spent the afternoon at work, working and reading this blog (and IMing people). I was talking to my flat mate this evening about it, while I made an amazing pizza and she made comments about my work implying I have a cushy job that allows me to read while I work. She actually is the main theme of this blog, but I think I might have too many themes. |

On the bus back from work today, the girl in front of me was talking on her phone to her buddy on the phone and came out with with "well she has always bought home an assortment of fuckers" obviously in reference to a friends taste in men. This in itself was not that amazing but the reaction by the old boy next to me was awesome. He gave out a loud tutt and made the sign of the cross. I really get a kick out of people making the sign of the cross while on public transport. A bus ride back from work in the evening does not usually go by without passing an ambulance, funeral procession or even just a Church, then I can do quick look around and remind myself I am in Ireland. |
Not 48 hours after declaring Bohemian Like You the theme song to my life. Im standing in a bar and it starts to play.
I took this as a time to evaluate if I am living up to my theme song and will continue to do so in the future to track my progress. Based on location, action, attire and company.
This time I think I scored rather well.
I was in a dodgy late night Pub called The Slaide, filled with rockers and girls dress in the Tokyo, Gwen Stefani kind of look, that I do not know the name of. So location wise it was bohemien.
I was drinking Bulmers, an Irish cider and dancing so plus points here.
Attire I did very well as I was wearing my veganfitness.net t-shirt and my Ska slip on check Vans.
My company for the evening included an Irish man, a Belgium girl (very sweet) and a fellow Saffer.

The major mission for the weekend was the Mayors Picnic on Sunday. So I was up early making rolls and a kick ass soya bean salad (mind the mung bean tin). Friday night had already turned into a big one, after getting home and missing my ride to the Caperoira I settled down with a local to drink my way through a six pack of Czech beers and some of my Stroh rum stash. After a brief pretty in pink fashion show we went to Ericas flat and had a few more dirty jugerbombs made with Stroh rum and fake redbull before finally going out to a club. The clubs close at 2 here and everyone tries to get there as late as possible which makes it all a little crazy for the two hours people actually spend in the club. Domingo is our resident non english speaking caperoria expert who stayed over on Saturday dispite his name being Sunday in Spanish. He is now a legend for having slept on the floor without taking his shoes off. |

Today I am making the 800m trek with all my possessions from the 4 star hotel where I have been staying (and spoilt at) on to my new flat. The flat hunting process has been scary, expensive and fanned my paranoia. I have the keys now, but the details are not all sorted out so I reckon Im 50% of the way there. Its a great little flat though smack in the middle of town, two rooms and two bathrooms all that and a little balcony. I will put up pictures tomorrow. Staying at the hotel as been great, but I really have been too busy to make the full use of it. I only got to the gym once and the novelty of having someone make your bed and hang up your towels while your at work soon wears off. |
