As with the wedding speech this is going to be hard to write without making it all about me and how Leon getting married effects me. During our first half marathon we joked about how if I died first we would know that being vegetarian is not healthy. See Leon and I trained together so where both the same fitness, both the same height and looked enough like each other to be mistaken as brothers (which we often used to our advantage). At the New Years party someone even called me Leon thinking that was my name. So the wedding was a big deal for me and for him. Before I left Ireland to come back to Cape Town for the wedding I had a minor freak out and get all weird. Luckily this settled down as soon as I touched down and by the time I got to the beach front and Countdown it was like I had never left. I was even wearing the same clothes as my mum had saved all the best ones for my holiday cupboard. |

After reading my post on surprise parties, certain people got inspired to organise me one before I leave. By the time Sunday came, it was not that great a surprise. Not many people actually tried to hide behind the rocks and we did meet Guy in the car park. As far as going away parties go it was good. I did not have to cook, clean or drink huge amounts of alcohol. There is a time and place for mass consumption of alcohol, we had covered that very well the night before at Cubanans and Buckleys (are we sure Jurie was there, I totally cant remember that). So today at silvermine was swimming, hangover recovery before Romy and I nipped off to the "lands" for a family thing. |

After the hell that is trying to organise enough people to play paintball. 11 of us arrived on Sunday morning at Area 51. This was not our first choice but turned out better than we expected. The course is great, its not in thick bush so you can run around, its not on a hectic hill, so you can run around and its pretty big enough so people can run off and hide even if they are on the attacking team. With a mix of locals and us rentals, Cat and Romy where picked as team captains taking turns to choice players. As with everywhere we have played so far, the masks are the weakest link tending to fog up the moment you even think about sweating or breathing. This together with some very well camouflaged and equipped locals meant the first couple of games we (meaning me) came pretty short. As In 10 seconds into the game I was sitting in the safe area trying to get the pink paint out of my belly button. |

You get it? As in it was Mozzies birthday, I had a mo for Movember and was wearing my new bad mo fo tshirt. Well it seems pretty funny at the time. Ended up a huge party night, the beer feast was a complete tourist trap. My pretzel and beer combination cost some obscene amount, that could have probably bought me a full meal outside of the water front. Eventually we took over two benches of drinkers with a few people eating. As per normal the bill arrived and the waiter sensing my maturity hands it to me. I hate this part people are generally assholes about putting in money and when it gets complicated with shooters and 10% tip already added it is just a nightmare. To avoid the pressure I put in my money, made a crack about Accturies being like Accountants and handed the bill to the two most qualified Acc Sci guys that where sitting there. My good deed for the day and gave them something to do. |

Weddings are great, I love every second of them. For the wedding present we bought 4 bottles of really good wine. The idea being that they kept the wine for a differant celebrate or aniversary that would happen in there marriage. Champagne for the honeymoon (Nitida Shiraz Champagne), white wine for there 1 year anniversary, merlot for 5 year anniversary, pinnotage for there 10 year etc etc. To make sure we got quality wines selflessly Leon and I spent the morning of the wedding wine tasting the durbanville wine route. This is no easy feat and there where one or too occassion where we found we got stuck at wine farms which delayed our process. Eventually we got home, managed to eat a quick stomach lining pile of slap chips and rolls before we headed off to the wedding. The Loene and Lehesta looked amazing and took charge of us on arrival. |

CRAG (cape runners against gravity) is really great. They get me out every Wednesday evening to run a new part of Table Mountain. Its really challenging trying to keep up with these guys leaping up steps and over boulders like a bunch of mountain goats. The views and seeing the very rare Disas really makes me feel like Im getting the most out of living in Cape Town. Its like a feel the love from the mountain man, and I really dig it.. |

This was really brilliant start to the new year for me. I have never done this hike and loved every second of it. It has motivated me to finally start going on crag www.crag.org.za events, they ran this route the Wednesday after us. Guy and I missioned our way up the mountain, we got to the top in 35 minutes a good 20 minutes before the rest of the crew started arriving. Joe was the last straggler taking well over an hour to get up the mountain. Like the other hippie tourist on top of the mountain we sat there ate snacks and watched the sunset before climbing down. |

Its so sexy, and we like Pepper the new mini to. Like the failed bay of pigs invasion, we only had partial success going through the cocktail list at Cape To Cuba in Kalk bay. The only prisioners we took, where a bottle of pickles with one solitary pickly and two berets. The last pickle in the jar was able to outsmart our number one Sean Connery imporsonator, so was left in peace on the steps. Like the copiuos amounts of alcohal left a terrible hang over so did the liberated berets. With there previuos owners phoning and demanding there return sometimes as much as 4 times a day! Eventually I cracked and drove into the scottish heartland to settle the score. It was nasty R160 per a beret. Lucky Andy had found one so I did not have to invest in two. |

The KGB phoned Tammy the next morning, "You and your comrades have something that belongs to our barmen, and ve vant them back!". Cape to Cuba are truely amazing not only are they able to move our bar tab on to our food bill but they are able to track us down the next morning to ask for there berets back. Respect! Sensing that the evening may be an emotional one, I grabbed the security blanket of alcohal and managed to spend most of the evening at the bar, only venturing out to the table when my food was ready. Killer hangover the next day, I woke up mixed my creatine with grandpa headache tablets and went back to bed. I think I need to find a new security blanket. |

I am not normally a fashion kind of person, I do have the odd fetish for diesel underwear, CK deo but in general I manage to water down any label whoring by a good base of Mr Price jeans and Linux t shirts. So as you can imagine a trip to Fashion TV cafe was an experience. Just the previous night I had been out in jeans and t shirt with flops to Murries in Table View and managed to party until 4 in the morning. Proving that you don't need to look like a fashion victim to have a good time. |

Yesterday driving home from work I got pulled off at a road block. No problem, the monte is licensed, I have my drivers and I wasnt drunk. Small problem that I havent quite got around to getting the CA number plates to go with the new tax disc. In fact Im still driving around with the GP number plates. So technically I am driving around with fake number plates which may not be looked apon well if stopped at a road block. Luckly Im having a good week so I smiled to the nice traffic officer gave him my drivers license. He apologised for having to make me stop, I told him it was ok because it was a nice day. He then walked around the car, checked the tax disc was valid. Checked my number plates and tyres and I was on my way. You have got to love Cape Town.
The blue drink that turned green is Leon and My patented hangover buster, we like to call "Getting the movers in". |
